Weekly Trip to the Library for Nannies and Au Pairs

Review of Homework Without Tears by Lee Canter (HarperCollins)

This week we described how to help kids with homework. Nannies and au pairs that care for school-aged children will find in this volume the help they need to create an non-stressful learning environment in the home and motivate their youngsters to succeed in school.

The problems most often encountered with children on this topic such as forgetting to do their homework, not doing their best, and refusing to do assignments are each dealt with individually in a systematic way. The book is very clear in stating the importance of homework in learning responsibility, and that parents must stand firm no matter the age of their children. Consequences are also discussed. It also includes helpful charts and checklists.

  1. The 2 major problems with nannies and homework are kids that are overtired and kids that are over scheduled.

My stress level after school is off the charts. Too many after school activities. Simply not enough hours in the day.

The kids probably get more stressed out by me being stressed out also.

Oh, if the parents could just spend a week without me seeing the stress after school the schedule would undoubtedly change.
