Get Out of Your Comfort Zone for Your New Year's Resolutions
I love when television talk show host and author Dr. Phil says, "How's that working for you?" When making choices, changes, and your new year's resolutions this year ask yourself if you are really getting what you want and need.
In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real WorldDr. Phil suggests if you are making the same New Year Resolutions as you made in January 2013 it's likely the goals set last year this time aren't working for you.
In The Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Handbook David Sobel explains that thousands of studies have been done to learn how people change -- or why they don't change. The book recommends to figure out why last year's resolutions didn't work you must examine your excuses.
You may have good reasons for not wanting to change, or they may just be excuses. Take a critical look at your reasons. Ask yourself, if someone else used these excuses would you agree or dispute them? Is it possible that once you go through the discomfort of change and break the habit, you will feel even stronger, calmer, and more satisfied.
David Sobel suggests start by asking yourself these four key questions:
1. What's the problem?
2. Do I really want change?
3. How ready am I to make that change?
4. What are the best strategies for me to use to be successful?
Dr. Phil says that doing what works takes insight and courage. He explains it's easier to keep doing exactly what you've been doing by staying in your comfort zone. But, if you want something different, then you have to do something different.
