I saw a photo of INA member using this with a boy on facebook!

I saw this company mention a few weeks back how a celebrity was using this with their new baby...

My personal concern about it all would be more along the lines of SIDS potential if people are using them in cribs.

Yes we have the back to sleep campaign but they are supposed to be flat in crib.

Looks comfy. I wish they made them adult sized. Also, it wasn't being used properly, so stop being all alarmist about it. Any baby product used improperly can cause injury or death. Including car seats, swings and bouncy chairs. Oh noez! I've seen pictures of INA members with children in car seats, and infants have suffocated in them!

I don't think any of the comments here were alarmist at all.

The company is recalling the product! They are losing a boatload on this, and not because media is simply sharing the news.

OMG I have a lot of friends using these. Please read the article before saying people are being alarmist. Why would a company make such a blunder?

First how does commenter above know if parents were using the Nap Nanny properly or not? For the newborn that died we know that it was in a crib which is not proper way to use it. They haven't gone public with the other infants that were hurt.

Yes, nothing is supposed to go in the crib with the infant, Nap Nanny included. They say only use it on the floor. Who puts babies on floors?

Just get your $80 back and put the kid in a swaddle in the crib with nothing else!

I think the real issue here is the continued use of bumpers in cribs. The baby got trapped between the bumpers and the Nap Nanny. Bumpers are a suffocation hazard and should be recalled as well. If there wasn’t a bumper in the crib this tragic accident may not have happened at all.

What do we do about babies that roll on their tummies during the night even before 2 months old?

How does an infant learn to turn over or change positions while in a thing like that? Kate

My thoughts are that parents can do whatever they want after hearing about the recall -- return the product, or keep using it.

But nannies should not use it now.

It would be irresponsible for nannies to use this after the recall. Since we are not the parents we must follow the advice of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

My suggestion for nannies would be to inform the parents about the recall and fill out the nec paperwork for the parents so they can get the $80 they deserve.

The CPSC said the girl who died was in the harness on the recliner but was found hanging over the side, stuck between a crib bumper and the Nap Nanny. Another infant also fell over the side of a Nap Nanny, despite being buckled in, and also got trapped between the recliner and crib, but only suffered a cut forehead. The CPSC said 21 other incidents involving the product were reported to the company by consumers, mostly with infants younger than five months falling over the side.
